Hurricane Laura was a category 4 hurricane that made landfall on Louisiana in August. The 120-mph winds, heavy rains and storm surge caused upwards of $12 billion in damage and affected an estimated 500,000 residential and commercial properties, with hundreds of thousands of electric customers left in the dark. During such a catastrophic weather event, having access to healthcare is critical, and CHP has a hand in ensuring it by helping to keep facilities and lifesaving equipment powered on.
We are proud to be the chosen heat and power source for healthcare facilities including the Regeis Care Center, Meriden Nursing Home and Duncaster Retirement Community.
As of mid-November, over 9,000 fires have burned more than 4 million acres of California’s roughly 100 million acres of land, making 2020 the largest wildfire season recorded in California's modern history. The peak of the wildfire season occurs between July and November, and keeps members of the military active and on guard all the while.
Like healthcare facilities, these critical response crews require home bases to rest and recharge in between responses; CHP is dedicated to the mission. Notably, our CHP systems power the Northern Maine Readiness Center, used by the Maine Army National Guard.
Human response aside, CHP is beneficial in the business sector, helping companies avoid economic storms. Any business that requires stable heating or cooling—like pharmaceutical companies storing lifesaving medicine or museums storing priceless artwork—can benefit from CHP any day, and especially during natural disasters.
