We’re excited to join practitioners in the fields of high-performance building and design, energy efficiency and renewable energy for a day of learning and networking. It’s the 2019 BuildingEnergy NYC
conference, on Thursday, September 26, hosted by the Northeast Sustainable Energy Association (NESEA). This year’s theme is “Electrification:” how it will affect design, construction, related policies, user engagement and other areas.

There’s a well-known saying that goes, “The optimist says the glass is half full. The pessimist says the glass is half empty." Applying that rationale to an abandoned and fire-damaged former paper manufacturing facility located in Holyoke, Massachusetts, the pessimist might call for the structure to be demolished. Our leaders looked at the building, however, and saw nothing but shining opportunity.

Are you prepared for even a “mini” blackout, like the one that hit the heart of New York City on July 13? Although about 72,000 customers lost power, the number of people it affected was much higher in the very-busy 42 blocks around Times Square. The cost to businesses during the 5+ hour electricity outage was tremendous. The Saturday-night NYC power outage brought events including a Jennifer Lopez concert, Broadway shows, movie showings and more to a stop. Hotels, attractions, stores and restaurants lost a busy night of business, and are footing the bill for service recovery efforts and equipment damaged when the power returned.

For us, May was packed with travel and tradeshows, new connections and inspiring ideas. We’re not letting up in June, and we’ll be contributing to the IDEA2019 conference in Pittsburgh from June 24–27 at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center.

Spring tradeshow season has been busy for our team, and the month of May will be no different. We’re (almost) positive the snow and freezing temps are now behind us in the Northeast, so we’ll be hitting the road hard, including in our home state of Massachusetts, as well as in Connecticut, New York and New Jersey.
